Art exhibit at museum
sets attendance record
On Ojai Day, Oct. 18, the Ojai Valley Museum hosted the opening reception for its first juried art exhibit, "Ojai Celebrates Art."The event drew a crowd of more than 750 people, setting a record for attendance for the Museum.
The exhibit is diverse, wildly eclectic and has been beautifully The exhibit runs through Nov. 16. presented by curators, Roger Conrad and Fred Kidder. Monetary awards, sponsored by Ojai Community Bank Museum and presented by Shari Skinner, president of the bank, were given to the following artists: Marilyn Noad, Ojai for her painting "Time and the River"; Sandy Wolk, Ojai, second for her sculpture, "Held in the Nest"; and Debra Scantlin, Santa Paula, third for her photograph, "Topas." Honorable mentions went to Gayel Childress, Yangai and Gail Pidduck. '
Three of the pieces were sold the day of the reception and additional artwork in the show is available for purchase.
When asked about her work, first I place award winner, Noad said, "It was my first show in Ojai, although I have been here since 1994. I was delighted to win and to have sold the painting to a local collector. The gallery is lovely... and I just hope the museum makes this show a yearly event."
Museum hours are Thursday and
Friday from 1 to 4 p.m., Saturday from'!"10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Sunday from noon to 4 p.m.
